Wagga 2650: Coronavirus patients recover as Murrumbidgee Local Health District records no new cases

Health officials have confirmed five people in the Murrumbidgee Local Health District have recovered from COVID-19 while no new cases have been recorded in the past three days.

Coronavirus: Australia could soon reach the pandemic peak

Five people in the local health district have recovered after contracting the coronavirus as the district recorded no new cases for the third consecutive day.

As of 8am today, the number of cases in the Murrumbidgee Local Health District remains at 42 cases with 10 in Wagga.

There are seven in Federation; six in Albury; five in Berrigan; three each in Griffith and Murrumbidgee; two each in and Hilltops; and one each in Hay, Narrandera, Snowy Valleys and Cootamundra-Gundagai.

Of the total, four are in hospital and the death toll remains at one. Beryl Bourke, 74, of Corowa died in Albury Base Hospital last week.

The number of people tested has reached 2139.

The health district today launched a range of recruitment strategies and campaign to strengthen its workforce and entice health workers during this pandemic.

“We still need to be prepared as a district for what lies ahead, and ensuring that we have the right resources, including the right mix of workforce moving into the foreseeable future is one of our top priorities,” MLHD’s director of people and culture Helen Emmerson said.

Yesterday, Riverina Police District’s Superintendent Bob Noble said that while 11 warnings were issued at the weekend in relation to people breaking strict measures to combat the coronavirus, he praised the majority.

He said that not having additional cases was “in part due to people complying and wanting to do the right thing”.

“We think that’s a positive sign but people should not get complacent about those numbers because things can change very quickly.

“Although people should reflect positively with their own contributions to making this work.

“Obviously, health, police and the government apparatuses have a role to play but it won’t work if people don’t sign on to this.”
