Revealed: Wagga’s best butcher of 2020

We asked you who the best butcher in Wagga is and the votes are in. SEE WHO THE WINNER IS.

We asked you who the best butcher in Wagga was and after going down to a nailbiting finish the joint-winners are South City Quality Meats, Wagga Meat Supply and Kooringal Butchery, Chirwen at Wagga Meat Supply and South Wagga Butchery.

We spoke to some of the winners in the lead up to their busiest time of the year, about why they think they were crowned the honour by readers, who voted for them in The Wagga News’ online poll.

Having opened at South City Shopping Centre in 2004, by Jason and Shara Mutimer, the butchery is a weekly go-to spot for many locals.

Owner Jason said he strives to serve top quality products at everyday affordable prices.

“Wow, it has come as a bit of a surprise,” Mr Mutimer said.

“It shows that the hard work we put in every day is appreciated by our loyal customers,” he said.

Mr Mutimer said him and his team are gearing up for the busiest time of the year.

“We have a truckload of orders coming in for Christmas,” Mr Mutimer said.

“As well as myself, I have five other butchers working here and we also employee some junior staff members,” he said.

Mr Mutimer said his products are sourced from a variety of suppliers and are made fresh everyday in store by experienced staff.

South City Quality Meats is open Monday to Friday 8am to 7pm and Saturday 8am to 6pm and Sunday from 8.30am to 6pm.

Located on Forsyth St and serving customers traditional top quality meat, it is no surprise why Wagga Meat Supply was voted as one of the best butchers in Wagga.

The family-owned business serve Wagga and surrounding Riverina towns with high quality local lamb and beef.

Manger, Michael Cameron said the award meant a lot to the business.

“We are really grateful to be given this title,” Mr Cameron said.

“It shows people are continuing to support small businesses like us,” he said.

Mr Cameron said the business prides itself on tradition.

“I think customers like to know where their meat is coming from and how it is handled,” Mr Cameron said.

“And for us everything is done here in store,” he said.

Wagga Meat Supply is open Monday to Friday from 6am to 6pm and Saturday from 6am to 3pm.

Kooringal Butchery

Opened in 1984, the Kooringal Butchery has become an icon of the Kooringal Mall and has now cemented it’s spot as one of the top butchers in Wagga.

Although some things have changed since the shop opened, one thing has stayed the same, and that is the traditional meat practices the business prides itself on.

Head butcher Micheal Flanagan said it was a privilege to be voted the joint best butcher in Wagga.

“We are very unique,” Mr Flanagan said.

“We do things differently and stick to tradition.

“And I’d say that’s why customers voted for us,” he said.

Mr Flanagan said he had worked at the butcher for around 20 years and the same practices were used to this very day.

“We stick to the trade and what we have been doing for decades,” Mr Flanagan said.

“We source the best and freshest meat and we break the meat on-site,” he said.

Mr Flanagan thanked customers for their support and hoped to see them in the shop again soon.

The store is open Monday to Friday 7am to 6pm and Saturday from & am to 1pm.
