An abandoned and run down south coast block’s future is set to be revealed in the coming weeks, with the real estate agency in charge of selling the land with “mega potential” revealing they are close to reaching a deal.

Situated in between Dan Murphy’s and BCF in Batemans Bay, 53 Old Princes Hwy, the 3942sq m block has remained abandoned for years, housing a shattered, broken structure surrounded by overgrown grass.

However, the block owned by The Endeavour Group – a subsidy of The Woolworths Group – is now up for sale, with real estate agency Colliers responsible for the job.

Three Colliers’ real estate agents are working on the sale, with realtor Jordan McConnell previously speaking to the publication about what Batemans Bay residents can expect.

While Mr McConnell could not disclose any price until the sale, he said the block would “most likely” be sold to a commercial retailer.

Now, more than a month after the land went on the market, Mr McConnell provided an update, revealing a buyer was nearly finalised.

“We’re down to two potential buyers,” he said.

“What goes there is now a matter of who ultimately purchases the land.”

Mr McConnell could not reveal who either of the two remaining buyers were, however he did say they were “retail commercial”.

He said this meant the land would likely be exclusively shops; an outcome which had the potential of not seeing the light of day, given the land is zoned as MU1, allowing mixed use residential and commercial buildings.

However, Mr McConnell said the likely outcome would be “showroom” style stores, similar to the town’s existing Kmart.

“We’ve had a real mix of interest from buyers, ranging from large scale showroom style retailers, to smaller quick service businesses like fast food places,” he said.

“We’ve had more larger retailer style stores place offers.”

A commercial developer would be the preferred outcome for Batemans Bay residents, who previously shared their thoughts about what they would like to see constructed at the “eyesore” block.

A poll published by this publication on March 28 last year indicated what people wanted for the site with 34 per cent voting for a Big W-style store, 33 per cent voting for recreation such as a bowling alley, seven per cent voting for a nightclub, 13 per cent voting for a hotel and 13 per cent voting for apartments.

Mr McConnell expects the sale to be finalised in July, noting he can then reveal the buyer.
