A Victorian man will face court next month after being charged with a bestiality offence related to a German Shepherd on the south coast dating back more than three years.
Leslie Hilton, 37, of Traralgon in Victoria did not face Bega Local Court on October 26 after being charged with one count of bestiality.
Police Prosecutor Liza Brown told the court, Mr Hilton, who also has a Merimbula address, is currently living interstate and was unable to travel to court.
“I can understand why he isn’t here,” she told the court.
Magistrate Doug Dick told the court the offences are strictly indictable, and Mr Hilton must face court in person next month.
Court documents state, police allege the offence occurred at Tura Beach north of Merimbula between January 2018 and January 2019.
The documents state the alleged victim is Mr Hilton’s German Shepherd dog.
Under NSW law, bestiality is defined as the act of sexually penetrating an animal, and carries up to 14 years imprisonment if convicted
Magistrate Dick adjourned the matter to the Bega District Court on November 11.
