A South Coast man has denied a series of accusations he assaulted his partner, including claims he “recklessly” choked them before allegedly resisting arrest.
Thomas Lewington, 33, appeared in Moruya Local Court on Friday, pleading not guilty to a string of charges including recklessly and intentionally choking someone, common assault, two counts of stalking and intimidation, and resisting or hindering arrest.
The charges stem from an alleged domestic assault earlier this year involving his partner.
Police allege the incident escalated to Lewington choking the victim, alongside multiple threats allegedly made against them in a bid to cause fear.
Court documents state when officers eventually arrived following reports of the alleged incident, Lewington allegedly resisted arrest.
He was then arrested, charged, and later granted bail.
In Moruya Local Court on Friday, Lewington’s lawyer, Wayne Boom, confirmed his client intended to contest all allegations put against him in a hearing.
Mr Boom said defence would have two witnesses in the hearing, with the prosecution confirming it would also present two witnesses.
Magistrate Doug Dick adjourned the case for hearing and confirmed the enforcement of an apprehended violence order protecting the alleged victim.
The order states Lewington is prohibited from approaching, threatening, or contacting his partner.
Lewington will return to Moruya Local Court on May 28 for hearing.
