Paramedics rushed a patient to hospital overnight after a fire destroyed a home on the NSW south coast.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Eric Fenning Drive, Surf Beach about 9.40pm on Sunday night.
A Fire and Rescue spokesman said the entire structure was destroyed despite emergency services’ best efforts.
“The whole home was engulfed in flames and destroyed by the time emergency services arrived,” the spokesman said.
“We had four fire trucks on the scene including the hazmat truck from Batemans Bay.”
NSW Ambulance and Batemans Bay Rural Fire Service (RFS) also attended the scene.
While it is yet to be confirmed, the RFS believe the fire started from a wooden spa on the deck malfunctioning.
Robert Blake who owns the neighbouring home said he was “scared my house was also gonna go”.
“The wind was blowing really strong last night and as soon as their gas bottle went, I thought we were done,” he said.
Mr Blake, a member of Malua Bay RFS, hosed down the side of his house and while there was no major damage, his home did not remain unscathed.
“There’s smoke damage on the top floor,” he said.
“We had to stay somewhere else last night and will probably have to for a few days.”
The South Coast News spoke to the owners of the burnt down property who declined to comment on the fire, but mentioned their joy to see their “famous” wooden bear untouched by the flames.
A number of individuals were affected in the fire, however only one was transported to hospital for assessment.
“The individual taken to hospital was not badly injured,” the spokesman said.
“We were lucky there weren’t more people injured.”
Emergency services had the blaze under control by 10.30pm.
Fire and Rescue launched a drone after the blaze was extinguished in an attempt to find the cause.
Fireys returned to the home today for further assessment.
