A man accused of a shocking daylight robbery of a popular south coast motor inn, in which he allegedly ordered the owner to “give me the money”, has appeared in court.
Robert Neville Behsman, 24, has been charged with aggravated robbery and is accused of stealing $1500 and a landline phone from the Argyle Terrace Motor Inn in Batemans Bay on November 10.
He has been remanded in custody since his arrest and has not yet entered a plea.
The alleged police facts detail the 55-year-old motor inn manager was working in the reception area around 8.25am when Behsman entered.
The 24-year-old was allegedly wearing a black balaclava and brandishing an extendible 1m baton when he pushed his way inside.
Behsman, who is unemployed, then demanded money from the manager according to the police facts.
“He pointed at the filing cabinet behind the counter and yelled: ‘Give me the money’,” documents stated.
Behsman allegedly then flung the handle of the baton in a fast motion, causing it to extend.
“Fearing for his safety, the manager opened the cash drawer and removed bundles of notes before running from the office,” the facts state.
Behsman is accused of stealing the $1500 and a cordless telephone before fleeing.
He was arrested ten days later after police officers found a Facebook profile belonging to Behsman which included pictures of a man dressed in similar clothing to the alleged motel robber.
When asked about the robbery, Behsman allegedly remained non-compliant.
“Oh you’se think I did that do you’se?” he told the police, according to the facts.
The Batemans Bay man will return to court in May.
