A man accused of raping a woman nearly 20 years ago on the NSW south coast is set for trial after denying the historic allegations in court.
Gold Coast man Reginal Bulu pleaded not guilty to sexual intercourse without consent in the Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday.
The plea and charges arise after the 47-year-old allegedly had sexual intercourse with a woman in Batemans Bay in 2005, knowing he did not have her consent, according to documents tendered to the court.
The documents state Bulu would have been 29 at the time of the alleged offending, which is also alleged to have occurred nearly two decades ago.
The court previously heard the alleged victim went to police many years later, who began working in conjunction with the Queensland Police.
Following extensive investigations Bulu was arrested and charged.
He remains in the Gold Coast suburb of Molendinar and is not subject to bail conditions, according to the court.
In the Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday, Bulu’s lawyer, Adam Sumbak said the case would proceed to trial in the District Court.
Magistrate Paul Lyon adjourned the case for callover at Bega District Court on February 5 where a trial date will be set.
