One boy dead, three injured after two-vehicle crash on Towamba Road, Nullica, south-west of Eden

A young boy has died and three others – including two girls aged just two and eight – are in hospital after a horror crash between a dual cab utility and a tipper truck on a South Coast road.

Crash experts are investigating the possible causes of a horror South Coast crash that has claimed the life of a young boy and left three others – including two young girls – in hospital.

Emergency services were called to Towamba Road, Nullica, 10km south-west of Eden, about 4.10pm on Tuesday (Tuesday 13 May after a LDV dual cab utility and Kenworth tipper truck collided.

A six-year-old boy, who had been a passenger in the utility, died at the scene.

The three other people in the utility – a-31-year-old male driver and two girls aged two and eight – suffered multiple injuries.

The driver was flown to Canberra Hospital while the two children were flown to Sydney Children’s Hospital.

The truck driver, 52, was taken to South-East Regional Hospital at Bega for mandatory testing and was treated for shock before being released.

Crash Investigation Unit manager Det Insp Jason Hogan said on Wednesday that at least one of the girls remained in a serious condition in hospital and was being treated by specialists.

“It’s a terrible tragedy that we need to avoid,” Det Insp Hogan told reporters.

“Drivers need to be careful. They need to drive to the conditions, obey the road rules and make sure that they get themselves and their passengers home safely.”

Det Insp Hogan said crash investigators would look at the circumstances surrounding the crash and a report prepared for the coroner.

He said there was “nothing to suggest” that the road conditions were dangerous but “all those inquiries will form part of our investigation”.

The boy’s death came a day after it was revealed that the state’s road toll was on track to be the worst in more than 15 years.

As of Monday, 134 people had died on NSW roads in 2025 – 22 more than at the same time last year.
