2022 Federal Election: How you can vote before election day

The NSW Liberal party has endorsed its candidate for the contested seat of Eden-Monaro as speculation around the announcement of election day heats up.

Dr Jerry Nockles was revealed as the party's candidate for the southern NSW seat on Saturday.

The former navy serviceman and Pharmacy Guild of Australia executive was one of two candidates vying for the chance to square off with Labor‘s Kristy McBain.

Ms McBain rose to prominence during the Black Summer fires as mayor of the Bega Valley Shire and narrowly clinched the bellwether seat in the 2020 by-election with a margin of just one per cent.

Dr Nockles served in the Australian navy for 24 years, including in the Gulf War, according a NSW Liberal Party spokesman, before pursuing a career in the NGO field.

Most recently, he served as a visiting fellow at the ANU College of Arts and Sciences, as well executive roles with NGOs World Vision and UNICEF Australia, before beginning work with the Pharmacy Guild.

According to the spokesman, Dr Nockles has been active in the local community, including Kosciusko Huts Association, Menslink mentor and Rotary Club board member, while raising his three kids with his wife Patience.

“This is one of the most beautiful parts of the world, with no other part of the country able to match our natural beauty and lifestyle,“ Dr Nockles said.

“If elected, I will fight to preserve the character of our region, and will focus on creating more opportunities so that people can make this their home and place of work.”

Dr Nockles served the former Member for Eden-Monaro, Dr Peter Hendy, and Senator Jim Molan.

According to the spokesman, Dr Nockles has the experience needed to tackle the critical issues facing Eden-Monaro straight away.

“This is the most critical election in a generation, and our electorate will be at the heart of this election,” Dr Nockles said.

“We need someone who will be a strong and capable representative in the Morrison Government, and could ensure that our local businesses get the support they need to recover and grow.

“I will ensure that we get the infrastructure and amenities that this electorate needs and deserves.”
