A new medical centre planned for a NSW south coast town could be constructed in an area described as a “growing health precinct”.

The $286,440 medical centre has been proposed for 22b Church St, Moruya – sitting next to an existing women’s health clinic and opposite a dental clinic.

The development application – if approved by the Eurobodalla Council – would see a single practitioner run the clinic, ranging from general appointments to chiropractor and massaging.

South coast based development firm Dual Design submitted the application to council, with owner Katrina Scobie noting the proposed block had been vacant for some time.

“As the clinic is nestled between a medical clinic and a residential area, care has been taken to create a structure that aesthetically draws from the domestic architectural forms of the area,” she said.

The proposed medical clinic would be constructed at the vacant 22b Church St block.

Documents submitted to Eurobodalla Council state the need for the clinic in Moruya due to the lack of health services in the town of 4295 people and there being only one other medical centre in the town’s CBD.

Ms Scobie said, along with the single practitioner, the business would also employ a full time receptionist to help run the day to day operations.

The proposed medical clinic would share a similar aesthetic to the existing women's health clinic.

She said the centre would operate Monday to Thursday, with opening times ranging from 10am to 6pm and 8am to 12pm.

“Multiple treatment rooms enables a maximum of two customers at one time to be treated in separate rooms; either for massage or chiropractic,” Ms Scobie said.

“Patients are provided with the luxury of residing longer in their treatment room as the next patient is being treated.”

Planning documents reveal the business would be run by a private operator, who is yet to be determined.

The documents also state the centre would share a similar design to its existing and neighbouring women’s health clinic, sharing a similar wooden aesthetic.

“The structure is single level with 2.7m ceilings as per the original residential dwellings of the area the scale of the development does not dominate the streetscape nor overpower the residential dwellings surrounding – some of which are double storey,” documents state.

The proposed medical centre for 22b Church St Moruya will remain on public exhibition on Eurobodalla Council’s website until May 27.
