The search operation on the NSW south coast for a possible missing boater has been halted, after a vessel was located on a lake unmanned with fishing gear on board.
A volunteer crew from Marine Rescue Ulladulla were deployed to search waters on Burrill Lake, after the unmanned tinny was located just before 2.30pm on Monday.
Marine Rescue NSW Inspector Stuart Massey said at the time that NSW Police Marine Area Command tasked rescue vessel Ulladulla 10 to commence the search for any possible people who may have fallen overboard.
“A crew from Marine Rescue Ulladulla will search waters west of the bridge near Kings Point,” he said.
“Marine Rescue NSW volunteers will conduct a contour search of the area on board Ulladulla 10 which is designed specifically to access shallow waters close to shore.”
After more than an hour of searching, the operation was ultimately called off after crews “did not locate anything out of the ordinary”.
“The Ulladulla 10 crew was stood down at 4:20pm and has now returned to base,” Mr Massey said.
“We understand that there have been no reports of a missing person.”
Mr Massey urged all boat owners to check that their vessel is moored correctly.
“Ropes age with the weather and can become brittle, please check the condition of your lines so that your vessel remains secure,” he said.
