A mother of two with an “appalling traffic record” and a “complete disregard for public safety” has copped a massive fine for her eye-watering speeding on the South Coast earlier this year.
Madeleine Moran Mulholland, 25, fronted Kiama Local Court on Monday to be sentenced for driving with a mid-range PCA and exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.
The Berry woman’s lawyer, Wayne Pasterfield, had to warn Magistrate Claire Girotto before she delved into the green P-plater’s horrific traffic record.
“Once Your Honour sees her record I’ll be glad you’re sitting down,” Mr Pasterfield said.
“Her record is atrocious,” the magistrate replied.
Mulholland’s latest offending occurred shortly before 1.30am on Sunday, June 26, when she was caught travelling in an Audi Q5 on the Princes Hwy at 158km/h in a 100km/h zone near Kiama Bends.
Police pulled the mother over and she told them she was “in a hurry” to get to her brother in Kiama because he was “having some issues”.
Mulholland didn’t have her licence on her and she blew a blood-alcohol reading of 0.089.
Mr Pasterfield told the court on Monday his client hadn’t been able to progress from her provisional licence because of her “consistent” offending which he described was akin to the sort of rap sheet often seen in Bankstown Local Court.
Magistrate Girotto hit Mulholland with a $2600 fine and put in place a 12-month conditional release order.
“The world doesn’t revolve around you, ma’am,” the magistrate said.
“You have to abide by the road rules. Speeding is what kills people on the road.
“I think you feel ashamed enough. You need a licence, you need it badly in order to look after your children.”
Mulholland is disqualified from driving for four months after which she will require an interlock device for 12 months.
