A man who led police on a dangerous – and at times violent – chase through suburban Shoalhaven, throwing an energy drink at pursuing officers and flipping them off, bizarrely told them after smashing into oncoming traffic he was “applying for Hollywood”.

The chaotic chase – which followed the discovery of a disturbing social media post just hours before – saw Kevin Ryan, 31, front Nowra Local Court on Tuesday via custody, pleading guilty to driving recklessly and furiously at speed, police pursuit, intentionally throwing an object at vehicle, two counts of not giving particulars to driver, and using a mobile phone when not permitted.

Court documents reveal the chase unfolded about 3pm on July 3, when the Sussex Inlet man’s wild speeding in his Audi A4 through Nowra caught the attention of several pedestrians who alerted police.

A marked highway patrol car spotted Ryan speeding through suburban streets and attempted to stop him, but he took off.

A pursuit was initiated, during which Ryan hurled an energy drink at the pursuing vehicle, splashing liquid across its windscreen, before giving officers the finger.

Agreed facts state multiple police vehicles joined the chase as Ryan tore through suburban streets at speeds of up to 80km/h in 50 zones.

Court documents reveal in one moment of pure stupidity, Ryan tore through an active school zone, swerving in and around cars.

He again flipped off the officers tailing him through the 40km/h zone.

The chase then reached the Princes Highway heading north, where Ryan strangely held his phone out the window, attempting to show officers the screen.

The dangerous chase finally ended on the northern side of Nowra Bridge, when Ryan crashed into a concrete barrier, scraped a car, and finally slammed into a ute head on while speeding in the wrong direction of traffic.

Police tackled Ryan to the ground and told him he was being recorded by body worn video, to which he bizarrely replied: “Good, I’m applying for Hollywood”.

He was arrested and taken to Nowra Police Station, where his licence was suspended, charged and refused bail.

A later police search of his phone revealed a disturbing Facebook post from earlier that day, reading: “The world can go f—k itself. The next person to even so much as smirk at me I will attack. I suggest keeping ya heads down or away from me. If you laugh at me while I’m in my car, I’ll make sure you go under it. Try me today society”.

In court, Ryan’s solicitor entered pleas of guilty on her client’s behalf, before Magistrate Lisa Viney adjourned the case for sentence on August 26.

A full sentence assessment report will be completed in the meantime.
