A woman has been busted stealing clothes and car keys – all while evading police – in a wild break and enter spree on the NSW south coast, a court has heard.
The multiple break and enters saw Katie Jackson, 27, wind up in Nowra Local Court on Tuesday, calling in via video link in custody.
The Tuross Heads woman pleaded guilty to charges of larceny, break and enter dwelling with intent to steal and enter enclosed land without lawful excuse.
Documents tendered to the court reveal on the morning of May 24 this year, Jackson entered a Bomaderry property, opening the door of a red MG vehicle and taking the keys out of the ignition. She quickly moved two houses down, this time breaking into the home and stealing a shirt.
However, agreed facts state the owner of the home caught Jackson in the act, telling her to remove the shirt and leave – which Jackson did.
The homeowner called police, who began searching the Bomaderry area for the woman described as blonde with tattoos.
However, agreed facts reveal that Jackson entered yet another property in Bomaderry, this time hiding behind a pile of mulch and changing her clothes.
Again, the owner of this property caught Jackson who quickly moved onto another Bomaderry property.
Agreed facts state the Tuross Heads woman opened the window of the new home and, while attempting to enter, was once again caught by the owner before she quickly moved on.
By this point, police arrived at the initial break in where the owner of the MG provided them CCTV footage of the woman breaking into his car.
The next day, police responded to reports a blonde woman was acting suspicious near a Bomaderry home, with witnesses believing she was attempting to break in.
Agreed facts stated upon arriving at the scene, police recognised the woman to be Jackson due to her “distinctive tattoos”.
She was arrested and conveyed to the Nowra Police Station where she was placed into custody and charged.
Jackson was refused bail the following day in Nowra Local Court and has remained in custody on remand since.
In the same court on Tuesday, Jackson’s lawyer Matthew Zappia asked Magistrate Geraldine Beattie for a lengthy adjournment in order for Jackson to complete a sentencing assessment report.
The request was not opposed by Ms Beattie, who said, given the seriousness of the matter, a report was needed.
Jackson will call in to Nowra Local Court on July 30 for sentencing.
