A 51-year-old south coast teacher charged with drug cultivation and possession has been stood down from a busy local high school after he was allegedly caught by south coast police with 15 cannabis plants.
Batemans Bay High School Teacher Jason Compton was allegedly in possession of plants ranging in size from 50cm to 100cm, as well as 51 grams of cannabis seeds, according to the court attendance notice.
A spokesman for the NSW Education confirmed Compton had been removed from the school last week and would not be returning until the charges are resolved.
The spokesperson said is not appropriate to comment further while the matter was still before the courts,
Compton had his first appearance before the Batemans Bay Local Court adjourned on February 28, as his defence lawyer stated the impact the charge would have on his work as a teacher would have to be investigated, including with NSW Education.
Compton will return to the court on March 21.
