A young man has denied allegations he reached speeds of 180km/h in a desperate bid to evade police in pursuit of his car on the south coast.
Isaac Morris appeared in the Nowra Local Court on Tuesday, pleading not guilty to charges of police pursuit and exceeding speeds of more than 45km/h.
Documents tendered to the court allege Morris was driving a blue Yamaha GS500 along the Princes Hwy in Jaspers Brush in the early hours of August 25, when police officers attempted to pull the teenager over.
However, it’s alleged Morris sped up to avoid officers with a police pursuit initiated.
Court documents allege Morris was driving at 180km/h during the pursuit – 80km above the 100km speed limit.
The 19-year-old was arrested the same day and taken to the Nowra Police Station where he was charged, before later being granted bail.
Morris’ licence was also suspended for six months.
The teenager sat behind his lawyer, Brett Ford, on Tuesday as Mr Ford entered the pleas on his client’s behalf.
Mr Ford said the case would need to go to hearing, suggesting it would only take one hour.
Magistrate Lisa Viney adjourned the case to February 21.
