An Ulladulla man’s shock driving record has been laid bare in court after he was hit with his eleventh driving suspension in 30 years.

The court heard during sentencing John Alexander Prosser told police he was taking his wife to the hospital when he was intercepted by police on November 2, 2021.

It is the fourth time the 63-year-old has been charged with driving while carrying a disqualified or suspended licence.

According to facts tendered by police, Prosser was driving a Mazda tray back utility on Deering St Ulladulla at 2.45pm on November 2, 2021 when patrolling policestopped his vehicle.

When asked to produce his licence, Posser told officers he didn’t have one.

Asked to explain why, Prosser said: “I was supposed to get my licence back with an interlock, but couldn’t get it booked in.

“I had to take my wife to the hospital.”

Police facts state that Posser was the only person in the car at the time.

During his sentencing in Milton Local Court on Thursday, Posser told Magistrate Lisa Viney he attempted to have an interlock device installed on his vehicle by Frankies Auto Electrics in Nowra on October 26, 2021.

He claimed to have later called the shop to arrange to collect the vehicle but was told it would be unavailable until November 8 because parts needed to be sourced.

In sentencing, Magistrate Viney noted Posser had a long history of driving offences.

Posser had his licence disqualified for six months on April 22 2021 after also being caught driving with a suspended or disqualified licence owing to a prior offence.

On March 3, Posser was sentenced by Manly Local Court for driving with a mid-range PCA.

Posser had previously had his licence suspended for six drink driving offences, including five at a high range, at courthouses in Yass, Wollongong, and Port Kembla.

Magistrate Viney sentenced Posser to a six month driving suspension and a fine of $1000.

Posser was eligible for a 25 per cent reduction due to an early plea, but had been disentitled from the court’s leniency owing to his past record, Magistrate Viney said.
