Doonside man Clayton Cooper allegedly found hiding under bed by police after south coast carjacking.

A Doonside man allegedly carjacked an elderly south coast man before driving his car more than 300km to evade police.

A western Sydney man was allegedly found by police hiding under a bed after allegedly carjacking an 83-year-old south coast man and fleeing more than 300km.

Clayton Cooper, 25, of Doonside faced Blacktown Local Court on July 28 via video link charged with aggravated robbery and stealing a motor vehicle after the alleged carjacking at Moruya.

He did not apply for bail and had bail formally refused by Magistrate Brian van Zuylen.

Mr Cooper is yet to enter any pleas. Police allege Mr Cooper approached the elderly man at a carpark on Vulcan Street just after 2.20pm on July 20 before knocking him to the ground and stealing his keys.

Police allege he then fled the scene in the man’s car before driving to Sydney to evade police.

Emergency services treated the elderly man at the scene for knee and arm injuries, before he was taken to Moruya Hospital in a stable condition, police said.

He has since been released from hospital, police said.

The elderly man’s car was recovered from a shopping centre carpark in Blacktown, along with his car keys and phone, police said.

Police allege Mr Cooper was found hiding under a bed at a home in Doonside at 3pm on July 27 following a week-long investigation.

He was arrested and taken to Blacktown Police Station.

He will face Blacktown Local Court on September 24.
