Denhams Beach: Man charged following alleged public place shooting

A man has been charged and a sawn-off shotgun has been seized following an alleged public place shooting on the NSW south coast.

Shots were allegedly fired on Beach Rd, Denhams Beach.

A man has been charged over an alleged public place shooting on the NSW south coast earlier this year, where a sawn-off shotgun was uncovered.

About 3.30pm, on Friday, January 12 this year, police were called following reports of shots fired near Beach Rd, Denhams Beach, approximately 6km southeast of Batemans Bay.

Officers attached to South Coast Police District attended and established a crime scene and police established Strike Force Implant to investigate the circumstances surrounding the public place shooting.

A sawn-off firearm was seized at the scene and taken for forensic examination.

Following extensive investigations and inquiries, about 8.30am on Thursday, March 14, officers attached to South Coast Regional Enforcement Squad executed a search warrant at a home in Bruce St, St Georges Basin.

The 41-year-old will appear in Batemans Bay Local Court on March 25.

A 41-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Nowra Police Station.

Police seized a gel blaster rifle, shotgun ammunition, cannabis plant and mobile phone from the St Georges Basin home for forensic examination.

He was charged with fire firearm manner likely injure persons, possess loaded firearm in public place, possess shortened firearm without authority, use and supply stolen firearm, possess ammunition without holding a licence, permit or authority and unlicensed driving.

The 41-year-old man was refused bail to appear before Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday, March 25.

Police are continuing investigations, searching for a second man they believe to be involved.
