A teen who allegedly targeted a south coast hotel before stealing cash, a wallet and other items from a number of cars, has been granted bail in court despite strong opposition from prosecutors.

Christopher Carriage, 18, appeared in the Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday via video link from custody, charged with enter building or land with intent to commit indictable offence, larceny, unlawfully obtained goods in custody and enter vehicle without consent of owner.

The Batemans Bay man has not entered pleas.

Carriage applied for bail during his court appearance, after the alleged early morning targeting of the Hive Hotel at Moruya four days earlier.

Prosecutors strongly opposed bail, detailing the allegations to magistrate Doug Dick.

Prosecutors said the 18-year-old man allegedly entered the hotel grounds just after 1am, breaking into multiple vehicles and stealing a number of items.

Documents tendered to the court state Carriage allegedly stole $600 cash, a wallet, a handbag, a drivers licence and a bank card.

Prosecution said police officers visited the hotel the following day, viewing CCTV footage of the alleged offences.

The officers allegedly found Carriage walking in Moruya, where $600 cash and other items were located on his person, as well as a pipe used for methamphetamine.

Officers allegedly uncovered further items at Carriage’s home which were believed to have been stolen.

Documents tendered to the court reveal Carriage was 18 at the time of the alleged offence.

The teen was arrested and placed into custody.

In court on Monday, Carriage’s lawyer, Daniel Turner, successfully fought for a bail application, given his client’s young age.

However, prosecutors continued to oppose bail.

Despite this, Mr Dick granted the bail application, given Carriage’s age and his belief community safety would be met with strict conditions.

The conditions included daily reporting to the Nowra police station – with the court hearing Carriage was set to move to a northern town out of Batemans Bay – a curfew of 8pm to 8am and a condition to not drink alcohol or take drugs, unless prescribed by a doctor.

Carriage’s matter was adjourned to the Batemans Bay Local Court on August 5.
