A young man who allegedly stole five cars on the NSW south coast, damaging one and torching another, has faced court for the alleged car stealing spree.

The alleged offences saw Brock Morris, 20, wind up in Nowra Local Court on Tuesday, charged with damage property by fire or explosion, take conveyance without consent of owner, larceny and four counts of stealing a motor vehicle.

The North Nowra man is yet to enter pleas.

Documents tendered to the court allege Morris stole five cars in total between the dates of January 27 and March 9 this year, all in Berry, north of Nowra.

Police allege Morris stole a red Nissan N15 Sedan, two white Toyota HiLux utes, red Toyota Land Cruiser and a blue Holden Commodore.

While it was not confirmed what happened to every single car Morris is accused of stealing, court documents allege the 20-year-old damaged one of the Toyota HiLux vehicles before ditching it outside Nowra and destroyed the Holden Commodore by setting it alight.

However, documents state Morris allegedly stole $1000 worth of parts from the vehicle before destroying it using fire.

Following investigations from the South Coast Police District into the litany of car thefts in Berry, Morris was eventually arrested and charged on March 28.

While Morris was initially refused bail at the Nowra Police Station, he was later granted bail in the Nowra Local Court.

In the same court on Tuesday, Morris appeared in person while his lawyer, Bret Ford, asked for an adjournment to allow his client to complete the Merit program – a voluntary program for adults in the local court who have problematic alcohol or other drug use.

The request was not opposed by Magistrate Lisa Viney, who allowed an adjournment of six weeks.

Morris will return to Nowra Local Court on June 4.
