A man arrested following the fatal stabbing of teenager Bailey Jones at Bomaderry on the state’s south coast has been named.
Dominic Saliba, 20, was arrested at a home on West Birrley St about 7.45am on Thursday and charged with murder, possessing an unauthorised firearm, and not safely storing a firearm other than a pistol.
He was refused bail at Nowra Local Court on Thursday where he was represented by lawyer Brett Ford, and will remain in custody on remand until his next court appearance on March 7.
The charges come after police were called to a home on West Birriley St about 7pm on December 9 following reports an 18-year-old had suffered chest injuries.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man, later identified as Bailey Jones, at the scene before he was taken to Shoalhaven Hospital in a critical condition. He died a short time later.
Following the incident, NSW Police established Strike Force Elephant to investigate the circumstances around the fatal stabbing.
About 7.45am on Thursday, officers arrested a 20-year-old man at a home in West Birriley St.
The man, later identified as Saliba, was taken back to Nowra police station where he was charged with murder.
Friends and family members paid tribute to the “loving” teen at a heartfelt funeral service in Sydney on Thursday.
Jones’ half-brother, Adam Micallef, told the packed church service he’d never be able to play football competitively with his younger sibling.
“In one of our last conversations, Bailey was telling me he wants to come play footy with whatever team I am on next year so that we could play a season together,” Mr Micallef said.
“I will never get that opportunity. I will never play footy with my little brother.”
