Benjamin Turner: Man charged after alleged Sanctuary Point home invasion

Police allege a homeowner was forced to defend himself with a bat during a home invasion on the NSW south coast. Three men have now been charged.

An alleged victim of a home invasion struck back at his multiple attackers, striking one with a bat after the trio threatened him with a wooden pole on the NSW south coast, police allege.

Benjamin Turner was refused bail in Nowra Local Court on Wednesday, after being charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence to inflict actual bodily harm, as well as stalk and intimidate to intend fear or physical harm.

The 45-year-old is yet to enter pleas.

Turner was one of three people arrested as part of an investigation into the Sanctuary Point home invasion at 3.45pm on Monday.

Police allege the 41-year-old male resident was assaulted with a wooden pole, while Turner and another man threatened the homeowner from outside.

They also allege the occupant of the home defended himself by striking one of the men with a bat, before the group fled.

Detectives attached to South Coast Police District attended and established a crime scene.

Following inquiries on Tuesday afternoon, detectives attended a home in Idlewild Ave, Sanctuary Point and arrested two men, aged 48 and 29.

They were taken to Nowra police station where they were charged with aggravated enter dwelling without knowing people there.

They were granted strict conditional bail and will appear in Nowra Local Court on August 27.

Meanwhile, police attended the Shoalhaven Hospital on Tuesday afternoon, where Turner was arrested, taken to the Nowra police station and charged.

He will return to the Nowra Local Court on October 1.

Police are continuing inquiries and believe there may still be one man who can assist with their inquiries.
