A 22-year-old-man will remain in police custody after being charged with a frightening incident in a bathroom stall on the state’s south coast on Valentine’s Day.
The Narooma man was refused bail after allegedly spying on a woman in Batemans Bay before threatening her, and another man who came to her aid.
Police allege the Narooma man followed a woman into a bathroom at the CitiCentre shopping arcade on Perry St on February 14.
The man then left the arcade which is home to the popular Perry Street Cinema, according to police, before returning a short time later.
Police allege the man then viewed the woman, who he did not know, from under a cubicle divider before becoming verbally aggressive towards her.
The woman cried out for help from a male known to her that was nearby at the time.
Police allege the male friend was also threatened by the man.
Officers from the south coast police investigated the startling incident, and arrested the alleged culprit after attending a home in Narooma on February 15.
The man was taken to the Narooma Police Station where he was charged with peeping and prying, common assault, and stalking or intimidating with the intent to create fear or physical harm.
He will appear before the Batemans Bay Local Court on March 7.
