A woman has survived being shot in the head with a nail gun, the projectile embedding behind her ear before she was able to pull it out herself.
Police will allege the 27-year-old woman was attacked by a man during a dispute at Cessnock last week.
The pair, who police say were known to each other, had been involved in a disagreement in the lead-up to the alleged attack on September 24.
Police will allege the woman and her mother arrived at a Chidgey Street address before they were ambushed by the man, who had hidden away from view.
The victim told police they heard several loud bangs on the side of their car before she was allegedly shot in the head by the nail gun.
The projectile pierced through about three centimetres of her head behind her right ear.
The woman grabbed the long nail and pulled it out as police were called.
She was treated for the head wound and will make a full recovery.
Investigators later found numerous holes in the side of the alleged victim’s car that were consistent with being hit by nails.
A man, 25, was arrested and later charged with using an offensive weapon to commit and indictable offence, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intimidation and malicious damage.
He has been refused bail to reappear in Cessnock Local Court on October 9.
