An elderly woman has been caught up in a series of alleged arson attack because a man had an ongoing dispute with a former resident at the property.
Police arrested Kevin George Fitzpatrick, 37, at Waratah and he was charged with three counts of destroy/damage property with intent to endanger life, two counts of destroy or damage property and one count of common assault.
His arrest followed an investigation by Newcastle detectives, and a public appeal for information, in relation to three separate arson incidents at a home on Metcalfe St, Wallsend on June 24, July 18 and 30.
The house, carport and a vehicle were all damaged in the alleged attacks.
An elderly woman was home at the time of all three incidents, but was uninjured.
Police allege he had an ongoing dispute with a former resident of the property and assaulted him at the home on June 21.
Mr Fitzpatrick was refused bail in Newcastle Local Court on Friday for his matters to be adjourned until Monday where he’ll make a bail application.
