A Mayfield man, on parole, is back behind bars charged over numerous firearm offences and a joy ride in a stolen car.
Tyrone Tuli, 23, was one of three men charged on December 14 when police spotted a black Mazda sedan - that was suspected stolen - at a service station in Merewether.
Officers arrested Tuli and another man at the service station after a search allegedly located $9000 in cash and ammunition.
While this was happening, police allege the other man sped off in the Mazda engaging police in a lengthy police pursuit through numerous Newcastle suburbs before road spikes were deployed and the vehicle crashed into a set of traffic lights at Mayfield, where the third man was finally arrested.
Police seized two bags dropped near the scene which were found to allegedly contain a number of pills, mobile phones, gloves and a knife.
Tuli pleaded not guilty to charges of possession of ammunition and be carried in conveyance taken without owner’s consent which are set down in Newcastle Local Court for February.
A search of the Mazda also allegedly uncovered a .22 calibre rifle, which Tuli was later charged for.
Following the incident, police also later searched an address at Wallsend where they allegedly found numerous prohibited firearms including a loaded shortened barrel 12 gauge shotgun, Glendale rifle with attached silencer and ammunition.
In Newcastle Local Court on Monday Tuli appeared in person to face 13 firearm offences.
His solicitor Matthew Unwin made an application for bail and told the court his client would adhere to strict conditions, which included residing at his grandmother’s house in Raymond Terrace and a curfew.
But Magistrate Susan Horan said there was nothing put to the court to show why he shouldn’t be detained and refused bail.
Those matters have been adjourned until March 9.
