Two men, who tried to evade police by hiding in the roof cavity of a home, were arrested and charged over an alleged break and enter at Lake Macquarie.
A Belmont home was broken into around 1.30pm Monday afternoon with a number of valuables stolen including jewellery, passports and personal items.
Police say the offenders were seen leaving the home in a Toyota Corolla.
More than an hour later after Lake Macquarie police scouted the area and surrounds, they came across the vehicle at a home in Windale.
Later that evening officers obtained a search warrant at that address, where they found two men, aged 26 and 27, hiding in the roof cavity.
It’s alleged police discovered items from the earlier break and enter and arrested both men.
The 27-year-old was charged fraud and driving offences, as well as aggravated break enter and steal in company.
The 26-year-old was charged with an outstanding domestic violence and prison warrant, as well as domestic violence offences and aggravated break enter and steal in company.
Both were refused bail and appeared at Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday.
