The 35-year-old entered pleas for two charges of assaulting a police officer in the execution of duty causing actual bodily harm.

Police were called to Panorama Motor Inn on the Pacific Hwy at Charlestown about 11.40pm on September 21, after reports a man was acting aggressively.

Police allege Sharman became confrontational with officers, punching and kicking them several times.

Unable to restrain the Carrington resident with capsicum spray and a taser, the officers called for backup.

Police said Sharman was then restrained, before being transferred to Belmont Police Station where he was charged.

The two injured police officers were taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment of facial injuries – one officer required stitches.

Sharman will be sentenced on December 15.
