Singleton: $7.18M waste resource facility approved at McDougall’s Hill

The Joint Regional Planning Panel has handed down its judgment on a $7.18 million waste resource facility at McDougall’s Hill, Singleton, It would increase and expand recycling infrastructure across the Upper Hunter.

A newly approved multimillion-dollar waste resource transfer station in the Hunter Valley has been classed as a “regionally significant development”.

The Joint Regional Planning Panel gave applicant Eco Logic Developments Pty Ltd the green light to build a $7.18 million waste resource facility at McDougall’s Hill, set to increase and expand recycling infrastructure across Singleton and the Upper Hunter.

Set for construction at Enterprise court, the site will sort and recycle up to 95,000 tonnes per year of building, construction, household clean-up and commercial waste materials from households and businesses.

The facility will also aim to achieve a 74 per cent recycling rate in the region, including increasing household waste from 42 per cent in 2018-2018 to 70 per cent by 2021.

The centre will include a community recycling centre which will be a convenient way for householders to drop off and chemicals, recyclables and general waste for recycling and disposal.

A tipping and sorting area, an advanced sorting and processing facility for building materials and a product manufacturing area for landscaping and civil supplies will also be included in the development.

During the application process a number of concerns were raised including noise, traffic, hours of operation and air quality but all were addressed before given the tick of approval.
