Police on the hunt for armed robber who threatened pharmacy staff with a knife in Cooks Hill

Staff members at a pharmacy in Cooks Hill have been terrorised by a man with a knife, who demanded they hand over medication.

Police are investigating after an attempted armed robbery at the Darby St Pharmacy on Sunday night.

About 7.45pm, two female employees were working inside the pharmacy when a man entered through the rear entrance on Railway St, before he approached the counter and threatened one of the attendants with a knife.

Seeing it all happen, the other employee activated an alarm, which prompted the would-be thief to flee, but empty handed.

Newcastle Police patrolled the area to try to find the man but had no luck in locating him.

He’s been described as being about 180cm tall, with a thin build, dark clothing and a dark face covering.
