Police investigation; body of man found in middle of road at Raymond Terrace with fatal stab wounds

Police believe there was a dispute between local residents before a man was fatally stabbed at Raymond Terrace early Saturday morning.
Police were called to the intersection of Watt St and Payton St at about 5.45am after receiving reports a man was lying in the middle of the road.
They arrived to a man slumped in the street and administered first aid, before paramedics arrived. He had stab wounds to the chest.
A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said they attended to a person that went into cardiac arrest but he was unable to be revived and died at the scene.
Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Detective Chief Inspector George Radmore said it is very early in the investigation.
“The stab wounds did result in a fatal wound,” he said.
“There were phone calls made to emergency services that prompted police.
“We’re interviewing a number of people from the area, Payton St is a very small cul de sac and we believe the male was a resident of Payton St.
“A number of witnesses from the area are helping police by providing statements and eye witness evidence.
“We believe there was a dispute within the street in the early hours which has spilled out onto the street and a fatal wound has been inflicted.”
