Former NRL legend Matty Johns is set to reveal his best Newcastle Knights players of all time, listing his top 20 and why they made the cut. Have your say on his picks.
He’s a rugby league legend and it’s fair to say Matty Johns is one of Newcastle’s favourite sons, and alongside his brother Andrew, was one half of the game’s most loved brother duo.
The former Newcastle Knight was known as a tough and resilient player in his time, forging out an impressive career which included Australian and Origin representative duties.
One of his most memorable moments in the red and blue would have to be the 97’ ARL grand final win against arch rivals, the Manly Sea Eagles. That was one hell of a game.
Not only a champion on the field, Johns continues to be a household name off the paddock as a Fox Sports TV personality and Daily Telegraph columnist, with a fun-loving attitude and cheeky persona, not one to hold back when he’s got a good story to tell.
Never one to shy away from telling it how it is, the league legend has revealed to The Newcastle News his all time favourite Newcastle Knights players.
From tomorrow, we’ll count down Johns’ best 20 Knights of all time, and reveal his top pick on Friday.
There’s plenty of love for these top 20 guys, with wraps on a Knights ‘warhorse’, an inspirational captain, a ‘mad dog’ on the field and a Kurri Kurri favourite.
