Muswellbrook: Man charged following Nundle search where police were probing baby’s death

An Upper Hunter man - wanted on five outstanding warrants - has been charged with assault offences. It follows a large scale police operation where detectives were investigating the suspicious death of a baby boy.

An Upper Hunter man — wanted on five outstanding warrants — has been charged with assault offences, following a large scale police operation south east of Tamworth, where detectives were investigating the suspicious death of a baby boy.

Officers from Hunter Valley Police, Oxley Police and specialist commands launched an extensive search in the tiny town of Nundle on Wednesday morning.

It’s believed police were searching for a man wanted for questioning over the death of seven-month-old Bodhi John in Aberdeen on Sunday.

Despite being rushed to Muswellbrook hospital, the child suffered significant injuries and was unable to be revived, with an autopsy to determine the child’s exact cause of death.

Just after 6.30pm on Wednesday, Hunter Valley Police arrested a 34-year-old man on the New England Highway at Muswellbrook during a vehicle stop.

He was taken to Muswellbrook Police Station before being transferred to Muswellbrook and Maitland Hospitals.

After being released from hospital, the man was charged with five outstanding warrants relating to traffic, property, judicial and revocation of parole offences.

He was also charged with three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, two counts of common assault and one count of intentionally or recklessly destroy/damage property.

He’s been refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Friday.

Police are continuing their inquiries into the death of the baby boy.
