Bad news for festival goers with this weekend’s Subsonic music festival at Monkerai, near Dungog postponed until early next year.
But it’s for a very good reason. Safety first.
The ongoing fires in the area pose a safety risk and there are critically low water levels in the Karuah river, which has resulted in Riverwood Downs removing permission to use the venue.
The festival, which has been running for a decade delighting music lovers with a variety of genres including techno & house, electronica, funk, hip hop and live bands, will instead move to a stunning new venue, revised date and location.
This year the festival partnered with London institution Fabric XX for an incredible artist showcase including headline acts Ricardo Villalobos, a legendary minimal tech veteran, Fabric founding resident Craig Richards as well as Mathew Jonson, Margaret Dygas and Archie Hamilton.
All tickets will remain valid, plus an advantage for tickets holders, they’ll also get to gain access to a series of club shows happening in Sydney across the weekend.
Festival Director Scott Commens said despite their best efforts, they were given no other option but to temporarily postpone the festival.
“We will shortly be announcing our exciting ne
w venue location and a new date for this Summer’s Festival,” Mr Commens said on their Facebook page.
“We will also be announcing a whole swathe of wicked club shows for the weekend of December 6th - 8th, so that our wonderful Subsonic ticket buyers will still get to see the artists they are excited about.
“We would like to offer our sincere apologies to all our patrons, artists, stallholders, staff and volunteers that are affected by the postponement.
“We were only advised of the unavailability of Riverwood Downs at very late notice and were unable to safely change the venue.
“The collaboration between Subsonic and Riverwood Downs has been a great one, spanning many years.
“We hope that all our loyal and wonderful Subsonic ticket holders will support us in this transitional time.”
While a number of ticket holders expressed their disappointment at the postponement, they acknowledged safety needed to come first.
“Well done guys for handling that so smoothly! Safety first,” one Facebook user commented.
“Very sad to not be together next weekend, but full support for this wise decision - I'm sure it wasn't easy at all,” another said.
