Detectives investigating the alleged inappropriate sexual touching of a Maitland masseuse have collected statements from more than a dozen other women following his arrest last week.

Merv Fullford, 62, was charged last Friday with two counts of sexually touching another person without their consent.

Police will allege Mr Fullford, a well-known remedial masseuse in the Lower Hunter, had inappropriately touched two women on separate occasions between 2019 and this year.

The women, aged 24 and 32, attended Maitland police station on separate occasions to report the incidents.

Port Stephens Hunter detectives began investigating the complaints before Mr Fullford was charged last Friday and granted bail to appear in court next month.

“As inquiries continue, police are reminding any members of the community who may have (information) to come forward and report the matter to police,’’ police said in a statement.

Since that statement – issued late last Friday night – more women have come forward to give statements to police.

The Newcastle News can reveal more than a dozen statements have already been taken.

Mr Fullford is a well-known figure across Maitland and been involved in several sporting clubs.

He ran his massage business out of home.

Investigations continue.
