Medowie armed robbery: Man, 36, and boy, 14, charged over alleged string of service station hold ups

Police allege a Medowie man and a teenage boy were involved in a string of armed robberies at service stations and attempted break-ins at two liquor stores.

Man and boy charged following investigation into string of robberies

A Hunter man and teenager have been charged over a string of armed robberies and attempted break and enters at multiple businesses across Newcastle and Port Stephens throughout May and June.

Detectives from Strike Force Nyrang — tasked with investigating robberies at three service stations in Sandgate, Williamtown and Wallsend, and the attempted break and enters of two liquor stores in Medowie and Elermore Vale — arrested a 14-year-old boy and 36-year-old man at a home in Medowie yesterday morning.

Police searched the property and seized several items including clothing.

Previously, police arrested and charged the same 14-year-old last week in relation to the alleged armed robbery of a service station at Newcastle Rd, Wallsend on June 1.

He was granted conditional bail on that matter.

Following his arrest yesterday, the 14-year-old was charged with additional offences including three counts of aggravated break; enter and steal in company; three counts of robbery whilst armed with an offensive weapon and attempted aggravated break, enter and steal.

He was refused bail to appear before a Children’s Court on Wednesday.

The man was charged with two counts of robbery whilst armed with an offensive weapon; two counts of attempted aggravated break, enter and steal in company; and one count of aggravated break, enter and steal.

He was bail refused at Raymond Terrace Local Court today, his matters adjourned until September.

Investigations under Strike Force Nyrang are continuing.
