Two teenagers have been charged after a man was stabbed in the back at Broadmeadow.
Police were told a 67-year-old man and a 17-year-old youth were arguing in a laneway between Teralba and Brunker roads at around 4pm Thursday, before two other youths, also aged 17, interjected.
As the older man was walking away, police allege he was stabbed in the back before the three youths fled the scene.
He was taken to John Hunter Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
Newcastle police set up a crime scene, before they arrested one teen who had returned to the laneway a short time later.
A second teen was arrested at his home on Park St at Merewether.
Both were charged with reckless wounding in company and granted bail to appear in a children’s court next month.
Investigations continue into locating the third teen.
