A man has been charged over allegedly failing to stop his vehicle and killing an elderly man crossing the street at Mayfield two years ago.
In November 2017, the elderly man, 91, was crossing Stedman St at Maitland road just after midday when he was struck by an SUV, which failed to stop.
He was taken to John Hunter Hospital with a number of injuries but was unable to recover and passed away three days later.
After a lengthy investigation, Newcastle police charged a man, 25, at a correctional facility in Wellington.
He is facing charges of dangerous driving causing death and failing to stop, and render assistance causing death.
He was refused bail and will appear in Dubbo Local Court on Tuesday.
