We ‘sure know something’ is coming when KISS is plastered all over one of Newcastle’s newest trams.
Less than 100 days away, Newcastle’s CBD will once again be transformed for the Newcastle Supercars 500 with revheads coming from near and far for one of the city’s biggest events in November.
Last year the Supercars season finale saw more than 160,000 fans flock to the three-day event, to be among the deafening sounds of engines roaring and to take in the smell of burnt rubber. This year organisers are hoping to see even more, with KISS and Newcastle’s own Screaming Jets the headline acts.
The 2017 Bathurst 1000 and 2018 Newcastle 500 race winner David Reynolds and his Penrite Racing teammate Anton De Pasquale this week unveiled a Newcastle tram covered in supercars and KISS images, one of the biggest rock bands of all time.
Reynolds said it is a great honour to see his 2018 celebrations in Newcastle feature on Newcastle Light Rail.
“It’s very cool to be up there alongside KISS,” Reynolds said.
“Newcastle is one of my favourite events. The street circuit is one of the hardest we race on and the fans embrace us like nowhere else.”
Coates Hire Newcastle 500 Event Manager Kurt Sakzewski said he expects fans to take advantage of the light rail services to get from the track to the concert on Saturday November 23.
“We’re very pleased that Newcastle City Council is supporting the event and helping Supercars to spread the word,” Sakzewski said.
“Light rail services will be running through to 1am Sunday morning, with increased service levels to handle the event crowds.
“Train services will run toward the Central Coast and Sydney Central up until 11.40pm on Saturday night as well, to cater for fans heading south after a huge day of racing and the KISS concert.”
Tickets to the event are still available, special ONE LAST KISS or GOLD tickets are available for fans to gain access to a full day of racing and the Saturday night concert.
In 2016, it was announced Newcastle would be the host city for the final round of the Supercars series for five years.
The challenging circuit runs through the eastern end of the Newcastle CBD taking in scenic views along Shortland Esplanade, Newcastle, Nobby’s beach and Newcastle Harbour.
