Lake Macquarie: Dale Donnelly charged with trying to evade police at high speed

Police allege Dale Donnelly ran a red light and drove 50 kilometres over the speed limit during a police pursuit through the streets of Lake Macquarie on Monday afternoon.

A man has been charged following a police pursuit, which allegedly sped through the streets of Lake Macquarie and ran a red light on Monday afternoon.

Dale Donnelly, 32, was the alleged driver of a blue Ford Falcon — which had been reported stolen from Forster last week — and allegedly reached speeds of up to 110 kilometres per hour in a 60 zone.

Lake Macquarie Police were patrolling Belmont North at around 3pm on Monday when they spotted the vehicle outside a property on Leicester St.

They made inquiries at nearby homes and the surrounding area before police allege Donnelly got into the driver’s seat of the Falcon and tried to escape from police.

Police allegedly chased Donnelly through several streets in Belmont and onto the Pacific Highway at Gateshead, before the vehicle allegedly speed through a red light.

The vehicle finally came to a stop at the intersection of the Pacific Highway and South St at Windale where Donnelly was arrested.

He has been charged with police pursuit fail to stop drive dangerously and drive whilst unlicensed.

He appeared at Newcastle Local Court and did not apply for bail. The matter has been adjourned until Thursday.
