In what’s believed to be a brutal attack, three kangaroos appear to have been deliberately injured in the Hunter Valley.

In a gruesome find, a bushwalker has come across one dead kangaroo with a fatal wound to its chest about 8am on Sunday.

Two more are believed to have been run over at Wollombi Park at Muswellbrook.

One of the injured kangaroos is believed to have hopped away when rescuers tried to help it, while the other had to be euthanised.

The scrubland was turned into a crime scene on Sunday as police investigated the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Any witnesses or anyone with dashcam vision in the area at the time is urged to come forward and report it to police.
