Battered, bruised and dressed in her prison greens, India Orrock was almost unrecognisable from her usual glamorous self on social media.
The 21-year-old Queenslander — who used to reside in Newcastle — was out for a drive with her boyfriend Kane Andrews, 20, at Maitland on Thursday before it ended badly and the Holden Commodore smashed into a home in Telarah.
She suffered a broken wrist, fractured ankle and perforated bowel.
Police allege Mr Andrews, who was the driver, was speeding along the New England Highway near Telarah before a pursuit commenced.
The vehicle lost control at the intersection of Raymond St and crashed into two fences and a nearby house with two people and an infant inside.
Instead of trying to help Ms Orrock — who was trapped inside the vehicle — Mr Andrews allegedly tried to flee the scene.
But his serious injuries meant he didn’t get far and he was arrested shortly after.
The pair were taken to John Hunter Hospital under police guard.
Newcastle Local Court heard while Ms Orrock wasn’t facing pursuit charges, she was taken into custody over outstanding warrants for an incident at Maitland in March last year.
She allegedly helped Mr Andrews make a getaway from police when he was in breach of his bail, the court heard.
Police allege he blamed Ms Orrock, insisting it was her fault, before he allegedly tried to flee.
The court heard after encouraging him to run from police, she allegedly placed her vehicle directly in-front of a police vehicle to hamper their efforts and then reversed her vehicle again blocking their attempts to pursue him.
She’s been charged with use/possess or attempt threaten to use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention apprehension; two counts of hinder police; move into the path of police and two counts of fail to appear.
Barrister Bill Hussey made an application for her release citing she was particularly vulnerable in custody given her young age and injuries where she was more prone to infection.
He offered up daily reporting, that she would reside with her grandfather in Greta, and $1000 surety.
But Magistrate Andrew Millar rejected the conditions and refused bail.
Still in hospital recovering Mr Andrews made no appearance.
Mr Hussey said his client would be pleading not guilty to all three charges of police pursuit drive dangerously, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous and, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.
Both matters have been adjourned until next month.
