First it was Virgin and REX airlines to pull their flights to and from Newcastle amid the COVID-19 crisis, now it’s been confirmed Jetstar will also temporarily suspend services into and out of the Hunter region.
Newcastle Airport are open and still operating but at a low capacity with just FlyPelican and Qantaslink still on the tarmac.
The airport learnt today that Jetstar will suspend all their flights, with bookings set to be open from June 1, although that could be subject to change.
“It’s not ‘goodbye’. It’s ‘see you later’,” Newcastle Airport tweeted.
It comes after regional airlines REX temporarily suspended all their flight in and out of Newcastle, while Virgin Australia Group advised of suspended services from March 27 until June 14.
FlyPelican has significantly reduced its services to Canberra, Byron Bay/Ballina and Dubbo, while Sydney services have also been temporarily suspended.
Qantaslink have reduced their Newcastle to Brisbane return service to 12 flights per week until the end of May.
Newcastle Airport said on its website a majority of their partner airlines are offering travel credit on all cancelled flights and flexible booking arrangements to meet the changing needs of passengers.
“We are working closely with each Airline to ensure the needs of our region are met without compromising the safety our passengers, staff, retailers and partners,” it stated.
