A court has heard both parties in the case of former NRL star Jarryd Hayne — who is facing two charges of aggravated sexual assault for the alleged rape of a woman in the Hunter Valley — are close to an agreement over documents.
Police allege the Dally M medallist caught a Taxi to a woman’s home in the Newcastle area on NRL grand final night on September 30, 2018.
It’s also alleged Hayne ripped off the 26-year-old woman’s clothing and bit her on the genitals, drawing blood, which resulted in the woman seeking hospital treatment.
He has pleaded not guilty to both counts, with a trial date set for May 4.
In Newcastle District Court on Thursday, Hayne’s solicitor Ms Musgrave said they were close to an agreement and required inspection of some material.
Appearing for the Commissioner of Police Sanjay Selvakumaran also made an application to the court to access particular items that needed to be inspected before the trial.
Judge Tim Gartelmann adjourned the matter until April 30 for case management, with Hayne’s bail to continue until then.
In a court appearance in July last year, the ex-Parramatta and Gold Coast back successfully had his bail varied to move to Perth to attend a Christian missionary school.
Outside court that day he said to media, “on the 4th of May, justice will be served.”
In August last year, Hayne settled a civil case in the US brought by a woman who claimed he raped her during his time at the San Francisco 49ers NRL team in 2015. Hayne denied the women’s allegations.
