A pedestrian has been taken to hospital with a leg injury after she was hit by a car crossing the road in Newcastle on Friday morning.
Just after 9am, a 65-year-old woman was attempting to cross the road on the corner of Tyrell St and Darby St when she was struck by the vehicle.
A number of passers by came to her aid as they waited for paramedics to arrive.
She was treated for a lower leg injury and was transported to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.
One witness said: “ I saw the woman fly through the air after I heard the hit and then saw her lying there.”
NSW Ambulance Inspector Luke Wiseman said fortunately the incident was at low speed.
“A young gentleman that was going to work was looking for a park and he unfortunately had a low speed accident with a pedestrian,” he said.
“The injury is an isolated lower leg injury.
“Certainly any motor vehicle accident has got high potential (for it to be worse).
Police talked to the driver on scene and are investigating.
