They were arrested last month after a search of their Gosford home allegedly uncovered knives, a homemade shiv, a machete, a homemade shotgun with ammunition and an amount of drugs.

During the incident on the night of June 29 at around 10.30pm, a neighbour said he heard ‘screams’ and someone yell ‘call the police’ coming from the Hawks Nest home.

Police allege a 78-year-old man, Philip Hughes, opened the door of his Booner St home and was confronted by three unknown men, who pushed past him before assaulting and stabbing him in the abdomen.

Police allege they then went upstairs and began assaulting a 53-year-old man and while he attempted to flee, they stabbed him in the back. He was stabbed a further seven times in the back and neck.

The group allegedly stole a purse and car keys from a 40-year-old woman, before fleeing on foot.

The 53-year-old had to be flown to John Hunter Hospital following the attack, before undergoing surgery for eight stab wounds. The older man also suffered a stab wound and head injuries. Both men have since recovered from their injuries.
