Teens charged over alleged bottle shop theft, Sydney Junction Hotel assault
Two 16-year-old boys have allegedly been involved in two incidents at Hamilton’s well-known Beaumont street on Sunday. Police allege they first robbed a bottle shop before punching a pub employee in the face.

Two teenagers have been charged after allegedly robbing a bottle shop before punching a pub employee in the face at Hamilton on Sunday.
The two 16-year-old boys entered the BYO Cellars on Beaumont St, shortly after 4pm on Sunday, and when the 28-year-old female employee asked them to leave, police allege one of the teens threatened the woman before they fled with bottles of alcohol.
A few hours later, at about 6.30pm, the pair appeared at the Sydney Junction Hotel when they were again told to leave.
Police allege when the 41-year-old male employee approached them, one of the teenagers punched him in the face and threatened him with a knife.
Several patrons intervened before the two teenagers left the venue, allegedly becoming increasing violent towards other patrons.
Newcastle police arrived a short time later, and officers were forced to deploy OC spray before a short foot pursuit ensued. The pair were both arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station where they were charged.
One of the teens was charged with two counts of common assault, and one count each of robbery in company, affray and resist officer in execution of duty. He was also charged with outstanding unrelated matters.
The second teen was charged with robbery in company, affray, resist arrest, assault police and a breach of bail offence.
Both were refused bail to face a children’s court on Monday.
