The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has told Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday, the parties in the case of former Newcastle Knight Jarrod Mullen are seeking an adjournment to negotiate facts, saying the matter could be “possibly resolved”.
Mullen, 32, was excused from attending Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday and remains free on conditional bail.
The former NSW Origin star has pleaded not guilty to a number of drugs charges including three counts of supplying an indictable quantity of a prohibited drug and one count of supplying a trafficable quantity of a prohibited drug.
On the basis of facts being negotiated and a possible resolution, Magistrate David Price adjourned the matter until November 20.
Mullen, who is currently serving a four-year ban from rugby league after he tested positive to an anabolic steroid in 2017, is alleged to have supplied cocaine on four occasions at Lake Macquarie in November last year.
A NSW police investigation of an alleged cocaine supply ring operating in the Hunter Valley saw Mullen arrested at his home in Wollongong in May.
Mullen’s lawyer Paul McGirr was represented by another lawyer, and asked for him to again be excused on the next court date, which was granted.
The investigation by officers from Strike Force Castlestead also resulted in the arrest of Les Mason, the brother of former NRL star Willie Mason, who was arrested and charged with commercial drug supply.
